Dr. V. Setty Pendakur served as a Professor of Transportation Planning at the University of British Columbia for 30 years and is now Professor Emeritus at UBC. He has been appointed an Honorary Professor at the National Academy of Sciences of China and at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. He was recently honored and appointed as a National Associate of the Institutes of Medicine and the National Academy of Sciences of the USA.

He has served, as a Visiting Professor at more than 30 universities around the world, including the University of Toronto, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of California, University of Pennsylvania, University of Washington, University of Paris, University of Bologna, University College of London, Indian Institute of Technology, University of Hong Kong, Institute of South East Asian Studies (Singapore), National University of Singapore, University of the Philippines and the Indian Institute of Management.

Dr. Pendakur has served as consultant to many governments in Asia including India, Singapore, China and Thailand. He has served as a consultant to the UNDP, the World Bank, the IDB, AfDB, the ECA, the ESCAP and the UNCHS. In that capacity, he has served in more than 30 countries in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. He has published more than 100 papers in refereed journals and has several commissioned papers for the global agencies mentioned above. He is currently a consultant to the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and a Senior Counselor to the State Council of the PRC.

Prof. Pendakur has served on numerous NGO Boards and Foundations in Vancouver: The United Way of Greater Vancouver, Neighborhood Services Association of Vancouver, Child’s Own Theatre, Immigrant Services Society, Vancouver Justice Council, Alexandra Foundation, Indo-Canadian Foundation, Real Estate Foundation of British Columbia and the Vancouver Foundation.

Dr. Pendakur has also served as a Vancouver City Councilor and as a Director of GVRD (Metro Vancouver). Dr Pendakur has served on numerous civic and provincial boards in the past: Vancouver Public Library Board, Vancouver Board of Variance, Vancouver City Planning Commission, Pacific National Exhibition (PNE), BC Public/Private Transit Council and British Columbia Transit Corporation. He is currently the President of Round House Community Arts and Recreation Society.

Professor Pendakur is the Founding Chair of the TRB Committee on Transportation in the Developing Countries (TRB-ABE90). He is currently Member Emeritus of this committee and Secretary.
