Carl K. Andersen was recently assigned to serve as the Connected Vehicle Program Coordinator for the Federal Highway Administration. In that position, Carl provides overall coordination and facilitation of FHWA efforts in support of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration’s Connected Vehicle Program, especially with regard to implementing Vehicle-to-Infrastructure technologies, applications, and policies.
Carl previously served as the Roadway Team Leader in the FHWA Office of Safety Research and Development. The Roadway Team manages a wide portfolio of research on highway safety issues, including intersection safety, speed management, roadway departure prevention and mitigation, ITS for safety, and visibility. In addition to serving as the team leader, Carl was responsible for research on issues related to the visibility of the roadway and the various traffic control devices on and along the roadway. This research includes evaluations of traffic signal lights, signage and pavement marking materials, and the use of fixed overhead lighting. He earned a Master’s Degree in Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey.
