Chair, TRB Standing Committee on Intelligent Transportation Systems
Jane Lappin is the current chair of the Transportation Research Board ITS Committee. In July 2012, Ms. Lappin co-chaired a notable three-day TRB workshop on automated vehicles, and will co-sponsor a new TRB joint subcommittee on automated vehicles.
Ms. Lappin is a founding member and twice-elected past Chair of the ITS International Benefits, Evaluation, and Costs Working Group (IBEC), and has served on and chaired various PIARC and ITS America committees and task forces.
Ms. Lappin is a Program Manager and Social Scientist at the Volpe National Transportation Research Center, a research and development center of the USDOT Research and Innovative Technologies Administration (RITA). Her work is focused on measuring the impact of advanced transportation technologies on mobility, network performance, and consumer behavior.
Prior to joining the Volpe Center in 1992, Ms. Lappin worked for Abt Associates in its business strategy practice. She studied sociology as an undergraduate at Boston University and earned a Master's degree in business administration at Simmons College Graduate School of Management.
